Pets reach NL after four-day delay in Halifax

A contingent of small animals have arrived in central Newfoundland — dirty but apparently healthy after a four-day delay in Halifax.

Pet Central manager Terri-Ann Crisby says the animals had been slated for a one-day trip to her pet store in Gander — but the delivery was repeatedly bumped at Halifax’s international airport.

The two chinchillas, two hamsters and two geckos finally made it Sunday morning.

Most of the 40 fish weren’t so lucky — only 10 or so made it.

Deadly house fire

A weekend house fire claimed the lives of two people in Wirral.

Fire fighters got the flames out in the two storey house and then found the bodies of a man and woman. The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.

Neighbours say the couple moved into the area about 20 years ago. Names are being withheld while relatives are notified.
