Bail granted in murder case

The Crown lawyer was shocked and disappointed that a man, charged with murdering an off duty police constable, was released on bail yesterday.

28 year old Christopher Calvin Garnier has been in custody since his arrest in September last year. His trial isn’t scheduled to begin until November next year in the death of Catherine Campbell.

Crown Attorney Carla Bell told CBC there were concerns about public safety and confidence in the administration of justice if Garnier were released.

Cowardly home invasion

There was a violent home invasion last night in the west end.

A man knocked on the door of a residence on Pennington Street. When the 85 year old woman answered, the man punched her in the face a couple of times knocking her down, then pulling her out the door demanding money. She screamed for help and the suspect fled.

The woman was treated for minor cuts and bruises.
