Dennis Oland case

Prosecutors are working on two strategies when it comes to the appeal and re-trial of Dennis Oland.

They told a judge yesterday they plan to appeal the October decision by the Court of Appeal which overturned Oland’s murder conviction. It will have to wait for the Supreme Court to decide whether it will hear the appeal.

In the meantime, they want to get the second trial going as soon as possible.

The judge has decided to wait until all avenues of appeal are expired before trying to set dates for that second trial. So it’ll likely be months before they do that, which means it’ll likely be at least next year before the trial happens.

Shooting update

Police continue to investigate a shooting in the north end early yesterday morning that sent a 29 year old man to hospital.

He was shot in the leg outdoors in the Summer Street area around 1:00am. The injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The Major Crime Unit is investigating but hasn’t said anything about suspects or a motive yet.
