Marissa Shephard’s plea on assaulting a correctional officer has been postponed again, until next month. The 21-year-old is charged with doing so at the New Brunswick Women’s Correctional Centre in Miramichi in July. She’s there awaiting a preliminary inquiry on first-degree murder and arson in the 2015 death of Baylee Wylie in Moncton.

First Mi’kmaw female judge appointed to NS judiciary
Two new judges, including the first Mi’kmaw woman, have been appointed to the provincial and family court. Catherine Benton is a lawyer with Legal Aid from Lunenburg County, and is the second Mi’kmaw judge in Nova Scotia. Ronda van der Hoek is a prosecutor and team leader with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada.
