Calls for ban on blood sales

Several groups are urging the province to ban blood plasma sales.

Canadian Plasma Resources, based in Ontario, says it’s almost ready to open its Moncton clinic where it will be paying for blood. It still needs federal approval.

The New Brunswick Health Coalition and various unions say that’ll make it a direct competitor to the Canadian Blood Services Agency which is non-profit…and take blood away from the public system.

Provincial Health Minister Victor Boudreau has said the province does not intend to prevent the clinic from opening.

New city manager for Moncton

Moncton has a new city manager…and 36 year old Marc Landry is originally from here, according to the Times and Transcript.

Council voted unanimously yesterday in favour of hiring Landry who has spent the last nine years as city manager of Beaumont, Alberta, a bilingual town of 18,000 people near Edmonton.
