Teachers suggest uses for strike savings

The Teachers Union says the $3.4 million which the government saved because of the one day strike last week should go into classrooms.

The government says it will be putting that money into grants for extra-curricular activities. The union says the money should go towards reducing class sizes or for greater support for special needs students.

IWK making major changes thanks to funding raising effort

The IWK Foundation has wrapped up a very successful privately-funded health-care campaign. It raised over $51 million in donations which will be used to redevelop care areas and fund mental health research.

Because of the donations, the IWK is now home to the Garron Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health and the IWK Kids’ Rehabilitation Centre, with other improvements in the coming years.
