A sex assault trial ended suddenly yesterday when a former university student changed his plea to guilty on lesser charges.
Charles Edward John Barrons pleaded guilty to assault and break and enter. Sexual assault and uttering threats charges were dropped by the Crown. The former Dalhousie student will be sentenced in the summer.
The charges came after an incident in September 2014 involving a woman who had previously had a relationship with Barrons.
A judge has ruled a Cape Breton boy will not be returned to his mother because living with her was too hazardous to his health.
The boy, identified only as B.F., was five when he was taken from his mother and weighed 132 pounds. In a written decision, Judge Robert Gregan says the boy’s weight was a serious health issue which could cause liver and other organ failure. The boy was placed in the care of Community Services and is now down to 80 pounds.
The judge also denied his parents visitation rights saying it would interfere with the B.F.’s progress.
