Calls for cooler heads in Cornwallis controversy

Indigenous leaders are urging protestors to call off their plans this weekend to tear down the statue of Edward Cornwallis in Cornwallis Park.

The Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq Chiefs and the executive director of the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre joined Mayor Mike Savage is calling for cooperation not confrontation. The city is setting up an expert panel to come up with recommendations on what to do about the statue and the Cornwallis name in Halifax.

Suzanne Patles, who organized the protest, told CBC if the city doesn’t promise to take the statue down by Natal Day her group will do it Saturday.

Sidney’s back in town but not the Cup…yet

Sidney Crosby is back in town for his hockey camp at Cole Harbour Place…but he didn’t bring the Stanley Cup.

It won’t arrive until August 6th and 7th. Plans for what he will do with it haven’t been nailed down yet. He also noted August 7th will be his 30th birthday.
