Finance Minister planning for Trump effect

Economic advisers to Finance Minister Bill Morneau say Donald Trump’s campaign stands on trade and taxation must be taken seriously.

The president-elect has promised to slash the U-S corporate tax rate and set up a border tax.

Finance Minister Bill Morneau has suggested his budget will be prudent in preparation for any Trump effect. He also pointed out Canada already has a low corporate tax rate that is very competitive internally.

Wealth inequality

The two richest Canadians have the same amount of wealth as the poorest 30% of the country according to Oxfam.

The aid group says billionaires David Thomson and Galen Weston have about as much wealth as 11 million Canadians combined. It wants the Trudeau Government to address this wealth inequality in the upcoming budget.
