Canada ranks poorly in seafood labelling

A coalition of environmental groups says Canada is lagging behind the U-S and Europe when it comes to labels on seafood.

The coalition called Seachoice, gave Canada a grade of “F” because of a lack of details such as the fish’s scientific name, where and how it was caught. Colleen Turlo of the Ecology Action Centre says because of the inadequate labelling consumers don’t have the health and environmental information they should have.

Former Mounty facing serious prison time for torturing son

A former RCMP officer has apologized in court for being what he called a monster.

The 45 year old Mountie can’t be named to protect the identity of his son whom he tortured and starved in the basement of the family’s Ottawa area home. He delivered the apology at his sentencing hearing, telling the 15 year old boy he’s sorry for his cruel and barbaric behaviour. The judge reserved decision on the sentenced which could reach a maximum of 23 years.

Family members who were in court dismissed his show of remorse as crocodile tears.
