Dennis Oland appeal

Dennis Oland’s lawyers are asking the Supreme Court of Canada to acquit him their client not just order a new trial.

Documents filed with the court show the lawyers arguing his conviction was unreasonable and ran counter to evidence provided at trial by a man who was working in the office below Richard Oland’s. Anthony Shaw testified he heard thumping noises coming from Richard Oland’s office at a time when Dennis Oland was seen on a security camera in Rothesay 15 minutes away.

They have also raised a number of other issues which they say should result in an acquittal.

Canada-US-China

Canada’s ambassador to China, John McCallum, says it remains to be seen how the Trump administration will deal with China.

His comment was reacting to a warning from U-S trade czar Robert Zoellick that if Canada wants a good relationship with the Trump administration, it shouldn’t get too close to Beijing. McCallum pointed out Trump hasn’t even appointed an ambassador to China yet.
