Costliest storm ever

That ice storm in January was the costliest storm ever to hit NB power.

The utility’s accountants have been adding up the cost which comes to $30 million…surpassing post-tropical storm Arthur in 2014 which cost it $23 million.

Lynn Arsenault, a vice-president at NB Power, told a public meeting in Tracadie yesterday they had to replace poles and wires which were brought down by the ice leaving tens of thousands in the dark for days. Then there was the cost of bringing in outside crews, lodging and feeding them.
