Affordable housing money coming soon

There should be more money coming from Ottawa soon for affordable housing in the province.

The senior federal minister for NB, Dominic Leblanc, was speaking yesterday about the Trudeau government pledging $11 billion more for affordable housing over 11 years. He didn’t have any details to offer about projects here…but said he’ll be back in a couple of week with specifics.

Dan Murphy, executive director of the NB Non-profit Housing Association, told the Telegraph-Journal the greatest need is in the Moncton area where 1,562 individuals are on the waiting list to receive housing.

Assessment scandal update

The Premier’s office has now acklowedged it gave the go ahead to fast track adoption of the new property tax assment system…but Brian Gallant’s staff also deny they pressured Service New Brunswick to hurry it up.

New Brunswick Union president Susie Proulx-Daigle issued a statement saying assessors had nothing to do with the development and deployment of the formula. She said the blame for the problems is not with the assessors, but with the elected officials.
