Stores to supply food banks with veggies and other food

Food Depot Alimentaire has partnered with the city of Moncton and local non-profit food agencies to launch the Food Recovery Program.

It’s an effort to channell surplus foods, which stores would normally throw out, to people who need it. Executive Director Chantal Senecal says food currently being thrown away because it’s past its expiry date, is definitely not waste and they aim to recover as much as they can to feed the hungry.

Revised plaza at events centre aproved

Moncton city council has approved a revised public plaza at the new events centre.

The $4.3 million plaza is meant to attract people and encourage nearby residential development. So councillors approved an amendment to the contract with Bird Construction which is in charge of building the events centre. It will now also build the adjacant public plaza.

The $4.3 million cost is already included in the $104 million prize tag for the whole construction.
