NB man dies in PEI

A 52 year old New Brunswick man has drowned on the north shore of PEI.

RCMP say the man was swimming at Bear River Beach in St. Margarets when he got caught in strong surf and an undertow. There are no life guards at that beach and local fishermen and fire fighters from Souris couldn’t get to him in time. The local fire chief told CBC the man was staying at a nearby cottage and may not have realized how dangerous the high surf could be.

Upper Woodstock fire

Flames destroyed a two unit apartment building in Upper Woodstock early Saturday. The blaze broke out at the building on route 103. Both the tenants living in the apartments escaped without injury but the fire has left them temporarily homeless. The building was destroyed. There’s no word yet on what caused the fire.
