Two arrested after standoff

An eight hour standoff near downtown Moncton ended peacefully yesterday with the arrest of a man and woman.

It all began with a report of shots being fired at a pickup on High Street near Mountain Road around 7:30 in the morning. RCMP arrived, evacuated neighbours and blocked off the street. Then the negotiators came in and a man and woman surrendered peacefully about 8 hours later.

No word on the charges facing the 25 year old man and 26 year old woman.

Riverview fire

The Red Cross is helping a family of four after a fire tore through their home near Riverview.

The fire in a home on Pine Glen Road was reported around 4:30 in the morning. One person was taken to hospital. No word on their injuries, although it apparently wasn’t burns.

The house was extensively damaged and the family cats were missing.
