Another covered bridge failing

Another covered bridge has failed inspection and been closed to heavy traffic.

Vaughan Creek Bridge in St. Martins now has a weight restriction of 18 tonnes….so it’s closed to tour buses carrying tourists, according to CBC. The bridge is still open to smaller vehicles…but the tourists now have to get off the buses and cross it on foot. Excursion operators are now making it part of the experience…walking across a covered bridge, talking about its history and giving them the opportunity to take pictures.

American support for NB exemption on softwood lumber duties

Provincial Trade Minister Roger Melanson says the governor of Maine is expected to support New Brunswick’s bid for an exemption from the latest American softwood lumber tariffs. Governor Paul LePage says he will express his support for the exemptions in a meeting at the White House today.

It was announced earlier this week that three of the Atlantic provinces would likely be exempted from the tariffs which now total an average of 27%.  New Brunswick was not included in that exemption.
