Moncton looks for newcomers to honour

The Greater Moncton Local Immigration Partnership wants to recognize newcomers and immigrants who are making a difference in their new communities.

It has launched the Immigrant Success Stories Program, so residents can nominate a newcomer or immigrant who they feel has made a positive contribution.  Angelique Reddy-Kalala, Immigration Strategy Officer with the City and Chair of the Local Immigration Partnership says they want to tell those stories and celebrate the diversity and vibrancy in the community.

Thefts bring jail sentence

A Moncton woman has been sent to jail for a number of thefts to feed a drug habit.

The Times and Transcript reports 35 year old Vanessa Christina Williston admitted to 16 offences and the judge sentenced her to eight months, 10 days with credit for four months served in custody since her arrest. One of the offences included swiping a collection jar for a cat rescue group from a gas station counter. There was $50 in it.
