New Zealand earthquake

New Zealand was shocked by a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake yesterday.  Prime Minister John Key is flying to a small South Island coastal town that’s a popular tourist destination. Only two people are reported dead despite a lot of damage.

The quake happened just north of Christchurch, which was devastated by a 2011 quake that killed 185 people.

Anti-Trump protests

The anti-Trump protests are continuing across the U-S.

Immigrants, their advocates and others are speaking out against the president-elect’s support of deportation and other measures. More than a thousand demonstrators marched in New York City carrying signs in English and Spanish which read “Hate won’t make us great” and chanting “We are here to stay”.

Several hundred anti-Trump protesters also gathered outside Toronto city hall.
