More moose collisions this year between here and Shediac

There’s been a spike in collisions involving moose between Dieppe and Shediac.

Shediac Fire Department Captain Julien Boudreau told CBC they’ve been averaging about one collission a week for the last seven or eight weeks when usually they only get one or two a season. He says most of the crashes have been on Highway 15 between the Highway 2 and 11 intersections.

He says there have been accidents involving no injuries with bigger vehicles like trucks and crashes involving smaller vehicles where there have been serious injuries.

PM on Indigenous protest

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a brief stop in Grand Bay-Westfield yesterday for an ice cream social in preparation for Canada Day.

Hundreds of people turned out to shake his hand, take a selfie and get him to autograph a flag.

Earlier in PEI, however, a controversy that erupted in Ottawa brought comments from Trudeau acknowledging the last 150 years of Canadian history has not been as positive for indigenous peoples. The prime minister says reconciliation with aboriginal Canadians needs to be a key theme of this year’s commemorations and reflect the diversity of the country.
