NB welcomes federal coal plan

The provincial government is welcoming the federal government’s latest initiative to fight climate change. Federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna has announced plans to phase out coal fired electricity generation by 2030.

About 70% of this province’s electricity is already generated by non-carbon sources. Provincial Environment Minister Serge Rousselle is applauding Ottawa for including flexibility for provinces heavily-reliant on coal, like Nova Scotia. He also plans to release his own climate change action plan in the coming weeks.
