AG – Meat

The Auditor General has concerns about meat safety in the province.  Kim MacPherson says her latest audit found processes in the Health Department to inspect meat and ensure they are safe aren’t always followed. She says the food premises program, which inspects slaughterhouses, butcher shops, grocery stores and restaurants to obtain a licence is not always followed which leads to unaddressed food safety risks.

AG – Finances

Auditor General Kim MacPherson warned the provincial government it can’t keep running up deficits.

In her annual report, MacPherson says the province has now run eight straight deficits increasing the province’s net debt to $14 billion…about $18,000 for each New Brunswicker.  She says the deficits and growing debt are unsustainable and could impact the ability to meet future financial obligations.
