Stormy weather

The province was battered yesterday for a second time this week by a pre-winter storm. This time it was worst in the north.

Still we got some more snow in the Greater Moncton area for a total of almost 30cms in the two storms. There was also a lot of wind…and power lines coming down.

Thousands of NB Power customers are still in the dark this morning….mainly from the Fredericton and Miramichi areas north. But there are still a few outages in the greater Moncton area and Sackville.
And don’t forget, as of last night, the overnight winter parking ban is in effect in Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview. Owners of vehicles parked on the street between midnight and 7:00am could be ticketed and towed.

City workers eye Moncton Council raises

Moncton city workers are looking at the raises city councillors gave themselves with an eye to future contract talks.

Their current contract doesn’t expire until the end of 2018…but the negotiations for the 200 workers begin next month with initial positions tabled.

Negotiator Larry Gagnon of P-SAC which represents the City Hall Employees Association, told the Times and Transcript the union certainly isn’t looking for the 35% raise councillors voted for themselves. But he says they will look to see if any part of it is applicable to the workers.
