MFU boss dies in accident

The director general of the Maritime Fishermen’s Union was one of two men killed in a head-on collision yesterday morning on Route 11 in Lower Newcastle.

46 year old Christian Brun, of Cormier Village, was driving a car that collided with another one from Miscou.

Fisheries consultant Gilles Theriault told CBC the Acadian community had lost a great person, calling Brun a leader in the fishing industry as well as a poet and artist. Fisheries Minister Dominic Leblanc, who’s known Brun for years, says he was shocked and saddened by the news.

Body found near Caraquet wharf

A man’s body has been recovered near the wharf in Caraquet.

It’s believed to be the body of an 81 year old man reported missing earlier yesterday in the area. An autopsy will confirm the I-D and the cause of death but foul play is not suspected.
