Three legislative officers nominated

Three legislative officers have been nominated.  Alexandre Deschênes will become conflict of interest commissioner, and integrity commissioner if today’s legislation is passed.  Michèle Pelletier will be the consumer advocate for insurance, and Kimberly Poffenroth will be chief electoral officer.

Legislation introduced to combine provincial watchdogs

The province is introducing legislation to combine a number of watchdog roles. Creating an integrity commissioner was suggested last summer in a government-commissioned report on the roles of legislative officers.

The new commissioner’s duties will include the Members’ Conflict of Interest Act, and Lobbyists’ Registration Act once proclaimed. Right to Information and Protection of Privacy will be included next September.
