Damaged Covered Bridge Near Qusipamsis to be Repaired; All NB Covered Bridges to be Assessed

Restoration and repair work on a covered bridge in Quispamisis will soon get underway after public opinion heavily sided in favour of saving the bridge. The Hammond River Number 2 Bridge was damaged after an overweight excavator fell through the bridge deck in early October. Public consultations showed strong support for saving and restoring the bridge rather than replacing it. Repairs on the 104-year-old bridge will begin soon and are expected to take about 8 months to complete. The province says in light of the incident the province will conduct a structural review of all covered bridges in New Brunswick.
