Petitcodiac bridge coming

Ottawa and the province will be providing almost $62 million to build a bridge across the Petitcodiac to replace part of the causeway, according to the Times and Transcript.

Provincial Finance Minister Cathy Rogers says the bridge has been a long time coming. They’ve been talking about it for decades and now it’s going to happen. She says it’ll help restore fish habuitat in the river and re-establish the tidal bore further upriver. Rogers says it’ll help enhance ecotourism as well as fishing…both commercial and recreational.

No word yet when the project will get underway.

PETA praises Shediac fire fighters

Shediac area firefighters who freed a moose from the frozen Shediac River will be honoured.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is sending a Compassionate Fire Department Award to the Shediac Fire Department.

Video was posted of last weekend’s rescue.  At first, the moose appeared agitated by the axe-swinging firefighters, but soon calmed down. They managed to smash a path through the ice and the moose got to shore, climbed the riverbank and headed back into the woods.

PETA is sending the fire department a letter of congratulations, a box of vegan cookies and a copy of The Engine 2 Diet, a Texas firefighter’s plant-based eating program.
