High-speed internet for all

Canada’s broadcast regulator has declared broadband Internet access a basic service nationwide, like telephones. C-R-T-C Commissioner Jean-Pierre Blais said all Canadians should have high-speed Internet service within 10 to 15 years, but it will be very costly…possibly $10 billion.

Blais acknowledged it’s an ambitious and costly target that will require a co-ordinated effort by business and government. But he said connecting all Canadians is vital to Canada’s economy in the 21st century.

Mexico explosion

Relatives are searching hospitals for victims of that huge fireworks explosion near Mexico City. 32 people were killed and 46 remain in hospitals.
Investigators are focusing on apparent lax security that allowed vendors to display their explosive wares in the passageways between stalls.
