Jail time for man who beat pregnant teen

A Moncton teen is going to jail for beating a pregnant teen.

The 19 year old man was in court yesterday for a sentencing hearing after pleading guilty earlier. The Times and Transcript says the man’s identity is not being disclosed to protect the identity of the victim who is in her mid-teens. She was beaten by the man on a sidewalk on Highfield Street in October.

The judge followed a joint recommendation of three months in jail then probation. But that man was on a conditional sentence for another crime at the time which the judge revoked. So he has to serve the remaining 265 days for that…then the three month sentence for this beating will begin.

Accused in shooting remains in custody

A man remains in custody after being charged with a shooting before Christmas downtown.

RCMP took 30-year-old Christopher Eric Dickie to court yesterday on aggravated assault and other charges. The Crown is objecting to his release so he was remanded in custody until at least Tuesday.

Dickie is charged with injuring a man outside a residence on Cameron Street early in the morning December 20th.
