Rally in support of cyclist one-metre law to be held Sunday

A rally will be held Sunday in Saint John to demand changes in the law to protect cyclists. This comes after the death of Ellen Watters who was hit by a vehicle while training outside Sussex.

Her family and friends are calling for New Brunwick to enact a law, similiar to ones in Nova Scotia and Ontario, requiring motorists to stay at least a metre away from people on bicycles.

Watters’ friend and fellow cyclist Emily Flynn told CTV the group wants the rule to be called “Ellen’s Law” in her memory. The “One Metre For Ellen” rally will be held at 1:00 Sunday afternoon at 100 Prince Edward Street. Then people will ride or walk to city hall.
