Home heating assistance applications now being accepted

The Gallant Government is now accepting applications for this year’s Home Energy Assistance Program. It’s designed to help low-income families cope with high energy bills, especially during the winter.

The one-time, $100 payment will be provided to households with incomes no higher than $30,000 in 2015.

The program was set to expire last year but the government decided to extend it for another five years. Last year it paid out $4.7 million.

Interim NDP leader chosen

The provincial NDP has chosen an interim leader until a permanent replacement for Dominic Cardy can be chosen.

Former journalist and federal NDP candidate Rosaire L’Italien was selected by the party’s executive committee on the weekend.

The former candidate in Madawaska-Restigouche told Brunswick News he plans to spend the next several months travelling around the province to try to reinvigorate the party.
