Young man acquitted in home invasion

A judge has acquitted a young man in connection with a home invasion that left one young woman paralysed and injured two others in 2014.

The judge found Markel Jason Downey not guilty on all 28 charges in connection with the home invasion in Cole Harbour. He said the testimony of the paralysed victim on her ability to identify the masked suspect was not sufficient on its own to convict him.

Three young offenders pleaded guilty earlier to their parts on the home invasion.

Northwood cleaner admits to sexual assault

A former cleaner at Northwood Manor will be sentenced in May for sexually assaulting a resident.

58 year old Joseph Elizee Comeau pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a woman with dementia who could not legally consent to the sex act. The judge said Comeau, being a cleaner at the home for several years, knew residents of the ninth floor suffered from mental impairments.
