There’s no school today…the teachers are on strike.

Thousands of them converged on Province House last night to protest the contract legislation being debated by the MLAs and hundreds remained at Province House overnight. The Speaker of the legislature limited the number who could sit in the public gallery.

Police arrested a man who was harassing some of the teachers. The 40 year old man will be in court later on charges under the liquor control act.

First it was the measles…now it’s the mumps turning up in a Halifax school.

Health officials are warning students and staff at Halifax West High School to watch for symptoms of the infectious disease.

So far it’s just the one case but officials haven’t said if it’s in a student or staff member.

Three cases of measles were reported several days ago in Halifax, prompting another warning by health officials. Both measles and mumps are usually covered by the same vacinne most kids get.
