Ottawa removing wind turbines from Sable Island

The wind farm on Sable Island is being abandoned by the federal government.

Ottawa is scrapping the five wind turbines which were to reduce the island’s dependance on fossil fuels. Officials point to the Island’s harsh conditions and extreme isolation as major factors for giving up on the 15 year long initiative.

So far, almost a million dollars has been spent on the project with another $150,000 for decomissioning of the turbines already there.
