Crown appeals appeal decision

The Crown is appealing a Court of Appeal decision which overturned a murder conviction.

Paul Trevor Calnen was convicted in 2015 of murdering Reita Louise Jordan in their home in Timberlea and then burning her body. The Court of Appeal overturned that conviction saying the judge erred in his instructions to the jury.

Now the Crown is appealing that decision to the Supreme Court of Canada.

William Sandeson sentencing

The man convicted of killing Taylor Samson had nothing to say at his sentencing hearing yesterday.

William Sandeson got an automatic sentence of life with no parole for 25 years for first degree murder. The hearing was to give Samson’s family a chance to express their feelings. Samson’s brother Connor delivered an emotional statement to the court saying he’s lost someone close to his heart and now fears for the safety of his family.
