Canada’s next governor general is Julie Payette.
An emotional Payette thanked her family, friends, and colleagues on Earth…and a few above the planet….for the honour when she was introduced by the Prime Minister yesterday. The former astronaut will be sworn in later this year as our fourth female Governor-General.
BC fire fighters have made some progress in the last day day or two on getting control of some of the 200+ wildfires in the province…but they are looking at the weekend forecast with trepidation.
Conditions are expected to worsen with stronger winds fanning the flames which have forced over 16,000 people to evacuate their homes.
