Students protest tuitions

Students rallied at Victoria Park yesterday and then marched on Province House protesting a spike in tuitions this year.

Students from around the province urged the government to eliminate tuitions. They pointed to New Briunswick which has made tuitions free for students from families earning less than $60,000 a year. The protesters said they spend too much money on tuition….over $7,000 a year on average in Nova Scotia.

The government says it has a number of programs to ease the load including free student loans which don’t have to be repaid until a student is earning at least $25,000 a year.

Two Halloween robberies

Police are investigating two Halloween night robberies involving a man on a bike.

The first happened around a quarter to eight, where a man on a BMX style bike rode by and snatched a woman’s purse at South Park and Inglis Streets.  The second was an hour later at South and South Park, where another woman’s purse was taken.
