NS NDP introduces legislation to review electoral reform

The Nova Scotia NDP Caucus is introducing legislation that would create a citizens’ commission to look at our voting system.  PEI is currently doing a non-binding plebiscite on electoral reform, and Justin Trudeau has said the next federal election would have a new system.  NDP leader Gary Burrill calls first-past-the-post an “outdated approach to democracy”.

South Shore nursing home cuts more than double initial reports: NDP

Numbers released by the McNeil government show nursing home cuts on the South Shore are more than double what was initially reported.  Seven regional nursing homes have seen a total of $378,758 in cuts.  Chester-St. Margaret’s MLA Denise Peterson-Rafuse is questioning the Liberals about why there isn’t a new facility for Shoreham Village in Chester, and the lack of progress opening a Collaborative Emergency Centre in Lunenburg.
