Crisis negotiators were on the scene of a standoff between Halifax Regional Police and a man they say was armed with a knife.

Police say an officer went to a home in Fairview this morning to arrest a man in relation to an outstanding breach file.

They say a man produced a knife while the officer was talking to him — and when the officer backed away to call for backup the man went back into the residence.

Titus Street between Main Avenue and Dutch Village Road, as well as Ashdale Avenue between Titus and Maple streets, was closed to traffic.
