Shelburne RCMP is investigating a fatal collision that occurred Thursday afternoon just after 4 p.m. near Birchtown on Highway 103.
Two people, a 71-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman, both from Lockeport, died when their vehicle collided with an oncoming vehicle. The driver of the oncoming vehicle was not hurt. The collision remains under investigation.

A multi-vehicle collision in Leitches Creek resulted in the closure of Highway 125 while police and first responders attended the scene. RCMP, assisted by Cape Breton Regional Police Service, were at the scene of a multi vehicle collision, where seven vehicles collided and an additional nine vehicles went off the road as a result. No serious injuries were reported, although some people were transported to hospital as a precaution.
