Government considers P-3 hospital

The McNeil Government is thinking of going the P-3 route to redevelop the Queen Elizabeth Health Sciences Centre.

Infrastructure Minister Geoff MacLellan says a request for supplier qualifications has been issued. MacLellan points out the government hasn’t made a firm decision about using a public-private partnership but they need to look at all reasonable funding and delivery options for the expensive job. Part of the redevelopment will be closure of the V-G and Centennial buildings in the south end.

Cemetery vandalism

Police are appealing to the public for help as they investigate vandalism at a historic cemetery in the west end. A number of headstones were knocked over at the Mount Olivet Cemetery sometime overnight Saturday.

Police say they are taking the matter very seriously in light of the disrespectful nature of the incident and given the cemetery’s historic significance to the community.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Halifax police or Crime Stoppers.
