Grass fires have been erupting around Cape Breton this week, a little earlier than usual.
Cape Breton Regional deputy chief Chris March told CBC grass fire season usually ramps up slowly, but it has erupted this week with his department facing 12 fires Monday night and 3 more Tuesday. One of them spread to a barn.
March is telling people don’t light grass fires. They are illegal and tie up resources and tire out fire fighters impeding their ability to respond to another fire.
Police point out anyone caught setting a grass fire could face mischief or arson charges.
