Cape Breton University’s board of governors says it has dismissed the school’s president David Wheeler. The board says a severance package has been negotiated and agreed to, and Wheeler is giving up any contractual entitlement to tenure. He was placed on a leave of absence with pay on November 1st while officials investigated governance issues. The board says in a release that the investigation examined issues including the way in which recent labour negotiations were conducted and concerns about strained working relationships within the school. The board also voted against ratification of the tentative agreement reached between the university and the Cape Breton University Faculty Association last month.
