The Canadian Red Cross handed out its provincial humanitarian awards last night during a fundraising dinner in Saint John.
The Telegraph-Journal reports the Humanitarian Award for New Brunswick was presented to Dr. Mahesh Raju. He helped establish Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick and has taught hundreds of medical students. He has also volunteered at clinics in India, Africa, Central America and the Caribbean.
The Young Humanitarian Award went to UNB graduate Jessica Brennan of Riverview who has volunteered at hospitals in Moncton and Fredericton and at clinics in Haiti and an orphanage in Jamaica. She has also raised funds for the Jamaican School for the Blind, and developed a mobile app that promotes youth volunteering and networking.
