Man convicted of killing Alberta couple and their grandson

A middle-aged Alberta man will likely spend the rest of his life in prison for killing a Calgary couple and their five year old grandson.

The jury convicted Douglas Garland of three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Alvin and Kathy Liknes and Nathan O’Brien.  He killed them then burned their bodies on his farm near Calgary. The jury also recommended he serve the three life sentences with no parole for 25 years consecutively rather than concurrently.
