Some home crafters have been threatened on social media because of Remembrance Day.
The Home Crafters of Cape Breton’s annual Christmas sale is set to got next weekend at Centre 200, meaning Remembrance Day ceremonies have been moved to the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion, which is a much smaller venue.
Crafter Audrey Pyke says they’ve been taken back by the threats and online negativity. They’ve been holding the show the second weekend of November for 25 years and at Centre 200 for the last decade. They talked to legions in February about the possible conflict and were told it was fine as long as the craft show didn’t open until the afternoon after the services ended. Then came word the Remembrance Day ceremony was being switched to the cruise pavillion.
Stephen MacLellan, president of Legion branch 128 in Whitney Pier; said it accepted the venue change and was taken aback by the negative reaction by some on social media which he says has really gotten out of hand.
