Halifax police say more study is needed to determine why visible minorities, particularly blacks, are overrepresented in street check data.
Data was released by the force after a Freedom of Information request by the CBC. As a result of that, the force went over data dating back even further and found blacks were stopped on the street and checked by officers about three times more than their percentage of the population. The Department says it’s conducting a deeper analysis of the data to determine what’s behind the disproportionality.
