Tensions seem to be rising in connection with the port development deals.
Three of the councillors who voted against extending the contract of Sydney Harbour Investment Partners or SHIP, told CBC they felt pressured, bullied by businessmen brought into the closed-door meeting.
On another matter, Mayor Cecil Clarke told the Cape Breton Post he was baffled as to why Sydney-Victoria MP Mark Eyking sent council a letter which called on it to appoint permanent members to the Port of Sydney Development Corporation which is being run by an interim board. This is supposedly in connection with the proposed extension of the cruise ship terminal. But Clarke called it a political red herring, noting the timing was on the same day council was dealing with the Novaporte development issues.
