That young Beluga whale rescued from a river in Northern New Brunswick last month is feared dead.
The research team tracking the animal told CBC they stopped receiving transmissions from the Belgua’s tag last week. They are hoping the tag, which transmits a signal when the whale surfaces for air, may have broken off or somehow been damaged. They admit, however, it’s likely it stopped transmitting because the whale died and either sank to the bottom or is floating belly up.
