The Prosecution Service has asked its Manitoba counterpart to provide legal advice to SIRT in the case of a death in Halifax police cells.
41 year old Corey Rogers was found unresponsive in a cell in June last year and could not be revived. Getting Manitoba prosecutors to advise SIRT is to avoid any potential conflict of interest.
It’s a fairly common practise…Nova Scotia prosecutors are currently handling cases in New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador.
